When I was a kid, I loved helping my grandmother decorate cakes. She was an amazing baker and taught me everything she knew, but the best part of all was watching her decorate those extra special celebration cakes. The endless hours of patience she put into making delicate suger-paste flowers and piping lacy flourishs was inspiring. The designs were always so beautiful, it made me want to learn how to do it myself. Now that I’m older and have more experience with baking I too love gifting family and friends beautifully decorated baked treats. The problem is unlike Grandma I don’t have the same amount of spare time she did to create those stunning cakes. Fortunately for me there are some new cake decorating tools such as flexible plastic stencils that allow me to quickly achieve similar levels of detail Grandma did in a fraction of the time.
